John Shenton was born in Leicestershire, England.

John, son of Nathenal & Hannah, was born in 1789 and baptised on 11 January 1789 in Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire, England.^[1] He and Mary Wale, married in Rothley in 1816, ^[2] were the parents of Lydia Hannah Shenton and are mentioned in the baptism certificate. ^[3]

They lived in Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire, where he was a plumber and glazier, and even introduced a patent for an improved water closet mechanism.

To John Snelson Shenton, of Husbands Bosworth, in the County of Leicester, Plumber and Glazier, for his having Invented or found out certain Improvements in the Mechanism of Water Closets.— [Sealed 12th July, 1827.] - Newton's London Journal of Arts and Sciences ^[4]

John Snelson Shenton's death (age 72) was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1862 in the Market Harborough district.^[5]

In 1829 his glazier's shop was burgled:^[6]

On Monday week, Edward Raworth of Wimeswould was committed to the county gaol, for trial at the assizex, charged with breaking open a glazier's shop at Husbands Bosworth, belonging to Mr John Shenton, and stealing therefrom a bar of block tin 30lbs. in weight. Raworth is the person noticed by us last week, as having offered some tin for sale to a brazier in this town, and who had been taken into custody on the Friday before, by R. Sladden, the constable, on suspicion of stealing it. Some glass was found in his possession, when apprehended. Leicester Herald - Wednesday 25 March 1829
