James married Ann Hodgson on 5 October 1840 at Killamarsh, Derbyshire.[3] They had two daughters.
Ann passed away in 1841 soon after the birth of her second daughter.[4]
On 24 January 1843 James married Elizabeth Bartholomew at Killamarsh, Derbyshire.[5] James and Elizabeth had eight children between 1843 and 1863.
In 1851 they lived at Holbrook Road, Mosborough, Derbyshire. They already had five children and James' daughter Sarah, from his previous marriage was with them when the census was taken. James was working as a Coal Miner.[6]
In 1861 they were living at Owlthorpe, Mosborough, Derbyshire with four of their children. James was still working in the coal mines.[7]
In 1871 they lived at Mosbro Moor, Mosborough, Eckington, Derbyshire. James was a Labourer at a Colliery.[8]
In 1881 James was working as an Agricultural Labourer. The family lived at Queen Street, Eckington, Derbyshire and two of their children were still living with them.[9]
The date of James' death is not known, although he does not seem to appear on the 1891 or 1901 census.
