Ruth Shepherd Bozeman 16 Nov 1929 – 12 Apr 2021 Ruth Dale Shepherd Bozeman of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away on April 12, 2021, at the age of 91. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 16, 1929 to Grant and Iva Shepherd. Ruth grew up in West End and attended Auburn University. Ruth Shepherd was united in holy matrimony with Spencer Judson (Jud) Bozeman on September 22, 1951 in Birmingham, Alabama. Their union was blessed with 3 daughters, the sons her daughters brought to her by marriage, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren with number 8 coming in August. Ruth was an active member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church from 1966 until her death. Over the years, she chaperoned and cooked for the youth program, received a double lifetime achievement award from the United Methodist Women, cooked meals in the church kitchen, was on the Nurturing Committee, counted Sunday offerings, and provided crafts and homemade treats for church fundraisers. She could be found on the back left side of the church sanctuary most Sunday mornings. She was employed by Central Bank, now known as BBVA, and retired from there as Head Teller. Ruth enjoyed cooking and baking. When her three daughters were growing up, she sewed all of their clothes. She enjoyed craft activities and sharing her skills with others. She played bridge with a group of friends for over 60 years. She is affectionately known as the matriarch of her neighborhood where she has inspired a loving and supportive group of neighbors for over 55 years. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Iva Shepherd. Her seven brothers, A.G., Donald, Cecil, Robert, John Ed, Jimmy, and David Shepherd and her husband Jud Bozeman. She leaves to cherish her memory her three children, Judi Bozeman Douglas and her husband Richard Douglas; Jenny Bozeman Harvey and her husband Willam Harvey; and Sandra Bozeman Bisset and her husband Archie Bisset; her seven grandchildren, Spencer Simpson and his wife Marcy Black Simpson; Laura Douglas Laabs and her husband Troy Laabs; Robert (Robby) Simpson; Christopher Bisset and his wife Dr. Laura Beth Mitchell Bisset; Judson (Jay) Douglas and his wife Dr. Joy Warren Douglas; Jessica Bisset; and Kerry Bisset and his wife Emily Campbell Bisset; eight Great Grandchildren, Benjamin (Ben) Megginson; Violet Simpson; Sharon Douglas; Jude Douglas; Hailey Laabs; Adelyn Laabs; Ruth Douglas; and in August, Baby Bisset. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Shepherd; along with numerous nieces and nephews who receive handwritten birthday and anniversary cards each year from Aunt Ruth. A graveside service will be held at Southern Heritage Cemetery on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM.
