George was given a pension for his service in the Revolutionary War (W8723). In his deposition given in Mason County Kentucky, he states that he was 72 years of age in 1832. In January 1780, he joined the company of Captain John Bayley as a private at Logan's Station in Virginia. They then joined the command of General George Rogers Clarke. He was engaged in building Fort Jefferson and served at Fort Vincennes. He was honorably discharged in the spring of 1783. He also gives testimony in support of the Revolutionary War pension claim of his brother in law, Francis McDermid Jr. In this document, he provides his birthday as 25 January 1760. See Francis' page for the document. In 1840, his wife Mary Ann appears in court in Mason county Kentucky to apply to continue to receive his pension as his widow. She gives his date of death as 26 May 1838. She confirms that her maiden name was McDermid, that she is currently 74 years old, and that she and George were married 25 Feb 1783 in Lexington Kentucky. Their son George provides an affidavit as well as Nowland T Parker and Henry Lee. [1]
