Ada Shepherd was born in 1882 in Coalville, Leicestershire, England. She was the daughter of William Shepherd and Emma Wardle.

In 1891 Ada (8) was living at No7, Newmarket, Ravenstone, Coalville with her parents and five siblings.

By 1901, Ada's mother, Emma was a widow. The family, including two older brothers, Walter (25) and Arthur (23) and a younger sister, Minnie (16), were living in Margaret Street, Coalville. Ada (18) was a wool weaver.

Ada Shepherd (spinster age 20), the daughter of William Shepherd (a carter, deceased) was married to Levi Bourne (bachelor age 21, a frame fitter), the son of Reuben Bourne (a foreman), on 4 Aug 1902 at Christ Church, Coalville, Leicestershire. The bride's siblings, Walter and Minnie Shepherd were witnesses, as were James Bourne and Annie Knifton.

In 1911, Ada (28) and Levi Bourne (29, a steel frame fitter in an engineering works) were living at 24, Margaret Street, Coalville. They had had three children, but only one was surviving - Dora Winifred (6). Ida and Elsie had died in infancy.

On the 1939 Register, Ada's husband, Levi Bourne was recorded as widowed.
