Born 24 Apr 1811 Hardin County, Kentucky, USA, son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Cowan) Shepherd. On Mar. 12, 1835 he married Esther Hedges and they had 11 children: Thomas M., William W., Mary, Emmett, Harry F., Orval B., Effie L. and 4 who died in infancy.

Died, Monday, March 5, 1883 after being an invalid for 30 years.
