Richard Sherburne Esquire was a member of aristocracy in the British Isles.

Richard Sherburne, Esq. was born about 1400 at Stonyhurst, Lancashire, England, the son of Richard Sherburne and Agnes Harrington.[1][2][3]

Marriage & Children

He married Alice Hamerton, daughter of Lawrence Hamerton, Esq. and Isabel Tempest, about 1425, pursuant to a 1422 agreement for his marriage to 'Maud', daughter of Lawrence Hamerton.[4] Alice was either known as Maud, or Richard was initially contracted to a sister named Maud, but in any event married Alice.

Richard and Alice had one son & two daughters:

Richard Sherburne, Esq left a will dated 3 January 1436[1], and died only a few days before his father Richard Sherburne, the elder[4]. He was buried on 25 May 1441 at Mitton, Lancashire, England.[5]

Research Notes

Other suggested children

An earlier version of this profile mentioned one other daughter, Elizabeth, wife of someone with the surname Clitheroe. No source was given, and she is not listed in Douglas Richardson's works. She is mentioned in Charles Davies Sherborn's A History of the Family Sherborn[3], but as a sibling of Richard who received bequests in her mother's Will.

Charles Davies Sherborn, in his book on the Sherborn family, lists another daughter, first name unknown, whose husband had the surname Charnock.[3]

In a series of edits I have added one or two sources, done some editing, and added a research note on other children who have been suggested.

No source is given for a daughter Elizabeth, and she is not mentioned in Douglas Richardson. An Elizabeth is mentioned in Charles Davies Sherborn's "A History of the Family Sherborn" (pub. 1901), page 17, but she is a sister of Richard and referred to in their mother’s will. I propose to delete her as a daughter unless someone has a good source.

Hello Thomas

The profile page of Richard (Sherburne-7) Esquire shows he had 8 siblings.

Profile pages of , Isabel (Sherburne-481) shows she had eight siblings, and (Isabel Sherburne-548) shows only 2 siblings, Robert (Sherburne-29) and Agnes (Sherburne-11) Rishton. Agnes is not listed as a sibling on Richard (Sherburne-7) or Isabel (Sherburne-418) profile page.

Isabel (Sherburne-548) and Isabel (Sherburne-481) appear to be the same person, and may need to be merged.

Thank you!
