Biography

Daniel Sherman was a son of Rev. John & Mary Sherman. He was baptized 27 Mar 1642 at the Milford 1st church and died 3 Nov 1716 ae 75. Capt. Sherman was buried in the original New Haven cemetery which is now the New Haven Town Green. He married (1) 28 Sep 1664 in New Haven Abiah Street and married (2) after 1707 Martha Bradley, widow of Samuel Munson and Eliasaph Preston.[1]

His gravestone still exists and is at the Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven.

I. Mary4 Bassett, b. Feb. 14, 1678-1751. m. Jan. 21, 1702, Daniel Sherman, son of Daniel and Abiah (Street) Sherman, b. Sep. 3, 1668. d. May 8, 1729, ae. 61. "Capt. Sherman was a master mariner, son of Rev. John and Mary {Launee) Sherman. The mother of Capt. Sherman was second wife of the pastor at Watertown, and was grandaughter of the Earl of Rivers, whose family were Roman Catholics. Her mother, a daughter of the Earl, married a Mr. Launce, a Puritan, and was herself a Puritan also." Abiah Street was the daughter of Rev. Nicholas Street, pastor of the church at Taunton, Mass.. and afterward of the First church at New Haven, son of Nicholas and Susanna (Gilberd) Street of Bridgewater, England.—Street Genealogy, p. g.
