Subject of a 1945 Application for the Sons of the American Revolution (see image). Identified as a "Minuteman" on that application.
"'John Shearman, of Plympton, served in Capt. Nathaniel Shaw's company, Col. James Warren's regiment, which marched in response to the alarm of April 19, 1775 to Marshfield; service 2 days.' He apparently had no other service, but all his sons were in the War." [3][4] (and see the images). [On this date, John Jr was only 12 years old.]

John Sherman of Carver, yeoman died intestate and on 7 January 1801, Nathaniel Sherman and John Sherman both of Carver were granted the administration of his estate.[5]
His inventory was taken on 13 January 1801 in Carver. An account of his estate by his sons Nathaniel and John Sherman was recorded which included the sale of personal and real estate, debts paid, legacies paid to Nathaniel Sherman, Rufus Sherman, Jonah Bisbey, Asa Sherman, John Sherman and Elizabeth Finney, and administration fees[6]
