In 1901, at the age of 19, he was at home with his parents in Congleton. He was working as a Clogger.[1]
Charles married Minnie Yearsley in Macclesfield in 1904. It was a Civil Marriage or Registrar Attended (i.e. not Church of England).[3][4]
At the time of the 1911 Census, Charles and Minnie were living in Macclesfield with Charles' father (widower). They had two sons. Charles, aged 30 was working as a Clog Manufacturer.[2]
