Biography

John was born in 1790 in Newberry County, South Carolina. His parents were James Sherrer and Theodosia Speak. He moved with his family to Wilkinson County, Georgia in 1796 and later to Henry County, Georgia. He was married to Anne Speak in Jasper County, Georgia in 1824. His father was a soldier of the Revolutionary War. He died in Henry County in 1833. John's mother filed for a pension as a widow of pensioner in 1837. John is recorded on the 1850 census in Henry County, Georgia. He died after 12 Oct 1850.

On December 19, 1837 in Henry County Georgia, Theodosia Sherrer , 81, filed for a widow's pension under the 1836 act stating that she is the widow of James Sherrer, a pensioner of the United States for his services in the revolutionary war; that she married him in the year 1779 and that her husband died December 23, 1833 and that she remains his widow. She submitted the following Bible record in support of her claim saying she had no record of her marriage but the record of her children's births including that of her oldest child recorded in said record as Ann Lindsey wife of Samuel Lindsey.
