Biography

Baptised 29 May 1968 Millmount^[1] Father's occupation: Militiaman

He arrived in New Zealand in 1874 on the ship Salisbury at the age of 6yrs.

His name was purged from the Waimea-Picton Electoral Roll in 1892.^[2]

In 1896 he emigrated to Sydney on the ship Manapouri. His occupation was Labourer.

He was a miner at the Kalgoorlie Gold Mine, Western Australia, where he died in mid-April 1901 at 33yrs of age.

FUNERAL Notice. — The Friends of the late William Sherrock (Late employee of the Kalgoorlie Gold Mine) are respectfully invited to follow his remains to the Kalgoorlie Cemetery. The funeral will leave the St. John of God's Hospital at 3.45 o'clock This Day (Wednesday), April 17th. — JohnP, Cruise, Undertaker, Kalg. Tel. 327.^[3]

Administration of his Will was granted to Samuel Evans, underground mine manager at Kalgoorlie by the Supreme Court of Western Australia.^[4]

His Probate was contested in the High Court, Wellington, 1903 as his mother Margaret was questioning ownership of some land in Dannevirke following his death.^[5]
