"He engaged in the lumber business in New York City, and invested largely in real estate in the Adirondacks and in the neighborhood of Fairfield. In 1840 he came to Fairfield to reside (in the part now Bridgeport), and in 1846 he sold his handsome residence and a portion of the land to P.T. Barnum, who named it "Iranistan" and it became the well-known home of the famous showman."
