At an early age he moved to Oxford and began the practice of law, in which profession he rose rapidly. He held the office of judge of the county, was justice of the peace for a long term of years, and was supervisor of the town for a number of years. Later he embarked in the mercantile tailoring business in this village, and also became a large land owner. He married a Miss SMITH, a native of Connecticut. Children: Samuel S., and Rebecca.
