Edson Crawford SHERWOOD was the son of Arthur Percy SHERWOOD and Esther A. SLATER. He married Kathleen Ruth AVERY, daughter of Frederick Welk AVERY and Ottilie GRAHAME, at Ottawa on 11 Sep 1926 at Ottawa. At the time of his marriage he was a Bond Salesman living at 451 Daly Ave, Ottawa, Ontario.
He was educated at Ashbury College, Class of 1912, and later attended The Royal Naval College of Canada in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Sherwood served at sea with the Royal Navy in the Great War. He was for 10 years in command of the Ottawa Division of the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve and was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor General.
