Ellen Sherwood was born c. 1834, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, the eldest daughter of the W S Sherwood, Esq of Liverpool.
Ellen married William Leslie Langley , son of John Douse Langley, on 29 December 1853 at Saint Mary, Edge Hill, Lancashire, England.[1]
"December 29, at Edgehill, near Liverpool, W L LANGLEY Esq MD of the 62d Regt, son of J D LANGLEY Esq of Ballyduff, co Waterford, to Ellen, eldest daughter of the late W S SHERWOOD Esq of Liverpool [8b615]" [2]

Ellen travelled with her husband with his military career from England to Malta, back to England and then eventually to his native Ireland, settling in Tramore, County Waterford.
Her husband, William Leslie Langley and three children, John Dowse Langley Jnr, Aphra Frances Hannah Langley and Fanny Elizabeth Aylmer Langley all died in a short period of time, their names are inscribed on a headstone at Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland. [3]
Ellen (Sherwood) Langley is listed as widow of William Leslie Langley in Will Calendar 1882 [4]
After her husband's death, she moved back to Liverpool with her (surviving) unmarried daughters.
Her daughter, Aphra Frances Hannah Langley's died in 1888 while living at 12 Mulgrave Street, Liverpool - probably with her youngest sister Fanny Elizabeth Aylmer Langley. [5]

Lancashire, England) at Mulgrave Street, Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England with her daughters, Ellen M Langley (28, Malta British Subject), Catherine E Langley (24, b. Yorkshire, England), Jessy A M Langley (22, b. Ireland Tramore) and visitors Frances M Page (34, b. Lancashire, England) and Emily Mowby (31, b. Cheshire, England) and domestic servant, Mary Kelly (46, b. Ireland Listerlin)[6]
In the 1901 England and Ireland Census, Ellen Langley (72, Living On Her Own Means, Head of Household, widowed, b. Liverpool, Lancashire) at Mulgrave Street, Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England with her daughters, Ellen Langley (38, Malta) and Jessy Langley (32, b. Ireland) and domestic servant, Florence Lees (17, b. Berkinhead, Cheshire)[7]
In the 1911 England and Ireland Census, Ellen Langley (82, widowed, Private Means, Head of Household, b. Liverpool, Lancashire,) at Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England with her daughters, Ellen Maria Langley (48, single, Malta Resident), Catherine Eliza Langley (44, single, sick nurse, b. Leeds, Yorkshire), Jessy Alicia Rosalie Langley (42, single, b. Tramore resident, County Waterford) and boarder Fanny Bradbury (45, sick nurse, b. Unstone, Derbyshire) and general domestic servant, Amelia Archer (23, b. Liverpool, Lancashire )[8]
She died Feb 1914 (aged 85 years) and was buried 5 Feb 1914 at Toxteth Park Cemetery, Toxteth, Metropolitan Borough of Liverpool, Merseyside, England, PLOT Sec. Q, Grave 141[9]
