Biography

1. His father was Richard Shiel who was with the Land Commission. He was educ at Clongowes College.

2. He was Commander in the Royal Navy

3. His first wife was his first cousin Mary Scully [Scully-596].

4. According to Ref 3 he m. a second time to Florence Conry but the record of this has not been found in Irish records so maybe it took place in the UK.

5. Also according to Ref 3 he had issue with both wives but no records were found in Ireland. As he was in the RN they were probably born abroad, likewise his 2nd marriage. The dates of birth of the two sets of issue appear to overlap.

6. At the birth of Charles he was resident at 17 Corrig Avenue, Kingstown later Dun Laoghaire.
