Patrick Shiel (aka Sheil, Shields, Shiels, Sheill) was born in about 1737 in Laois, Ireland, parents and wife not yet known.
He was the father of Murtagh (Murty) Shields aka Shiel who was born in about 1760 in County Kilkenny, Ireland and was convicted and tried in March 1798 for the crime of Horse Theft in County Kilkenny, Ireland and was transported to the Colony New South Wales for life, leaving behind a wife and five children.
Patrick died on 30 January 1814 at about age 77 in Clogh, Kilkenny, Ireland, possibly never knowing what happened to his son [1].
