Jobe Solomon Shields was born January 15, 1833 in Georgia, a son of Frank Shields and Martha Elizabeth Adams. On November 27, 1856, he married Nancy Catherine Lovorn (1842-1910), daughter of William Edmund Lovorn and Matilda Milton Lowe, in Center, Attala County, Mississippi. They had ten known children, and first settled near Dossville Mississippi and later lived a half mile from Center on a farm situated partly on the Leake and Attala county line. Jobe enlisted in the C.S.A. on May 3, 1862, Co. K, 40th Ms. Regt., commanded by Capt Steve Jamison. He was discharged April 26, 1865. [1] Jobe died November 6, 1908 and was buried at Magnolia Cemetery, Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi.
