Johannes Andreas entered the U.S. as Leidig from Germany, but after being hanged for murdering his wife, his offspring have used various spellings. By the time they reached Indiana County, PA the adaptation to Lydick by my direct line was used, and Lydic by a sibling.
Also found as McSweeny, McSweeney and McSwinny by offspring of Bryan McSwiney from Ireland, who was deported for crimes against England.
German immigrant with name spelled as Mauch. The line has gone through Mauk variations, but 3x GG Peter chose to use Mock.
Looking for proof of parentage for Jeremiah Paul Sexton (Sexton-1245) born about 1815 in Cork County, Ireland possibly and immigrated to America where he married Mary Jane McSwiney, also found as Mary Jane McSweeney in 1856, Indiana County, PA. My Great Grandfather's bible lists parents as Cornelius and Julia Donovan Sexton. I have found a Daniel Cornelius and a Cornelius Daniel Sexton in that area who had a son Jeremiah, and a Julia Donovan married to a Daniel Sexton but the dates are wrong.
Also found as Shankel and Schenkel in documents, but my 2x Great Grandfather chose to use the modern spelling, tho his death certificate lists his father as Shankel.
Shields-1830 is one of my roadblocks. There is a lot of documentation of the 10 Shields Brothers, which I can find no connection to, but a similar location trail until Robert went to Virginia and married Nancy Stockton convinces me there is some relationship. So far no DNA proof either.
Also spelled Van Horn by later generations.
Trying to verify Native American line that a Great-Uncle claimed was told to him by his Grandmother. Family lore states that a wife of Frederick Wassam was a Christianized Susquehannock Indian named Penelope.
DNA Tested
Pj Patty's DNA has been tested for genealogical purposes. It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Pj or other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with Pj:

Patty - thanks for welcoming me. My Shields ancestry seems to be through Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and then Indiana. My grandfather Shields' spouse's ancestry goes back to a McCullough in Pennsylvania but that's as close as I can get to a PA connection.

The Patty family of Westmoreland, PA may be related to one of the lines I research. I have found those in TN, AL, GA, NC and SC locations, back to 1700s.

Hope you can add more details and family to your wikitree.

Welcome to the 1776 Project: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:1776

There are category links to add to your ancestor's profiles and research links to learn more about your family. The Project is a good way to consolidate the WikiTree ancestors with historic connections to the years of 1773 (Boston Tea Party) to 1789 (ratification of the U.S. Constitution.) All patriot, loyalist, Hessians, French, Native Americans or any other profiles with a connection to these years should be linked to an appropriate category in the Project.

Some categories have a template (SAR) to add at the top of a biography. If not, add a category link by putting the category name such as
Pj (Shields) Patty participated in the American Revolution
Thank you.

Hi Pam,

One of your recently uploaded photos is a nominee in our "Family History Photo of the Week." We'll feature the winner on the main WikiTree home page all next week and share it on our social networks. I assume you wouldn't mind having the photo featured like this, if it were to win. If for some reason you wouldn't want this, let me know right away. We could remove it from the list of nominees if you let me know before Friday. Also, it isn't necessary, but if you have any more information about the photo or the person, I am sure members of the group would love to hear any stories or information that adds background color. You can add the additional information in the comment box here underneath the photo. Thank you!
