Research Notes

Olga Jones Edwards and JoAnn Wear Spore [4] list a John Shields among Banner and Peggy's children, only they say his wife was Ann Shook, married 21 Sep 1847 in McMinn Co. This info. is not consistent with family group above. It is not a second marriage because John was still married to Mary in 1880 in Navarro County, Texas.

A John Shields DID marry an Ann Shook 21 Sep 1847 in McMinn County. This (Mary) Ann Shook was living in McMinn County in 1850.

line 38 Mary Shields age 30 b. Tenn. cannot read or write
line 39 Lucinda Shook, age 12 b. Tenn.

[5]

Does the answer lie in the Shook family tree and the family of Lucinda b. 1838 in Tenn.? Are there two Mary Shooks who married Shieldses? (2017) Yes, there are two different Marys. One was in Texas in 1860 and the other was still in Tennessee in 1880.
