Biography

Owen and Kate emigrated to New Zealand in 1880. They started out in Taranaki where Owen worked on a dairy farm, but left for the South Island in 1882 with their first son John.

They settled at Longbeach Estate where Owen worked for John Grigg in charge of his stud cattle, and Catherine controlled the dairy side of the operation.

She won a major award for her export butter. He was also the manager of Hawke's Farm.
