Mary Shields was born about 1873 in Mississippi, United States.^[1]

In the 1880 US census, Mary Shields (age 7) was living in Greenville, Washington County, Mississippi, with parents John W Shields (32) and Sallie W Shields (29), and siblings Walton (9), Sallie (5) and Willie (3), and with Elvira Walton (60) and Floyd Walton (20).^[1]

Mary W Shields married Thomas H Hood on 3 Jan 1893 in Washington County, Mississippi.^[2]

She died before 1900, as her husband Thomas Hood is remarried to Elizabeth D Hood in the 1900 census.^[3]
