Biography
Sarah "Sadie" Knox Shields was born in 1845 in Allegheny City, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Samuel S. Shields (Tuesday, March 2, 1802, in Butler, Pennsylvania - Sunday, January 28, 1883) and Harriett Campbell Shields ( Saturday, December 26, 1812 - Sunday, February 12, 1893). Her parents were married likely in 1832. Her father was a house carpenter. Sadie was the sixth of nine children.
On Thursday, September 30, 1869, Sadie married William Harrison Graham (Saturday, August 3, 1844 - Friday, March 2, 1923) in Pittsburgh. At the time he was employed as a leather draper. They had six children: Alice "Allie" Shields Kopp (Wednesday, August 17, 1870 - Saturday, June 9, 1956); Maurice K, (Tuesday, January 30, 1872 - Tuesday, July 9, 1889); Talbutt Centennial (Thursday, May 4, 1876 - Saturday, July 28, 1945); William Tyson (Friday, May 3, 1878 - ? ); Lesley Stone (Saturday, July 24, 1880 - Thursday, December 1, 1938); and Elizabeth Thornley (Saturday, February 6, 1886 - Wednesday, June 10, 1959).
Sarah passed away on February 28, 1898, in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. She is interred at Highwood Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Section R.
