Adam Shipley was born about 1705. The place of his birth became Howard County when the county was later created. [1]
He was the son of Richard Shipley (1677–1724) and Susannah Stevens Shipley (unknown–1728) [1]
He married Ruth Tevis (1713–1767) [1]
Adam Shipley purchased from his brothers their share of Adam the First. In 1746 he re-surveyed the land and gave it the name Adam the Second. In 1754 he patented Adam's Garden, a 1212 acre tract. These properties, which adjoin Springfield State Hospital at Sykesville, Maryland, are now owned by the State of Maryland. [2]
Adam shipley died in 1778 in Howard County, Maryland and is buried in the Shipley Graveyard, Howard County, Maryland, USA [1]
He wrote his will 19 March 1767, but it was not probated until 4 April 1778. [3] The will
"Adam and his wife Ruth are buried beneath a large pine tree at Adam's Garden near the original homestead. [2]
He died in 1778 and is buried in the Shipley Graveyard, Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland. The cemetery is located on Richards Valley Road, within the "Shipley's Grant" community; it is currently overgrown and in disrepair.
