Biography

1729 Birth

William Shipley was born 1 May 1729 and baptized at Christ Church, Queen Caroline Parish, Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland[1]

1753 Marriage

In 1753 he married Rebecca Ogg, daughter of George Ogg and Mary Potee. Rebecca was a sister of Catherine Ogg, the wife of William's brother, George, Sr. Rebecca was born 16 October 1732, according to St. Paul's register. [2]

In 1756 George Ogg conveyed property to his daughter Rebecca, wife of William Shipley. [2]

1788 Mortgage

On 15 December 1788 William Shipley mortgaged to Elizabeth and John Hood a tract called part of What's Left, part of Addition to What's Left, part of Shipley's Search , parft of Laswt Search, which the Hoods then conveyed back to William Shipley, "since the mortgage money has been paid. [2]

1794 Will

His will was probated 1 April 1794.[2]

Research Notes

William is currently shown married to a Rebecca Sellman rather than Ogg, and to have married in Virginia. It appears likely that it was another William, living in Virginia, who married there.

In 1753 in Stafford County, Virginia he married Rebecca Sellman.[3]
