Biography

William Amos Shipley was born on March 14, 1846 in De Witt County, Illinois. He was the son of James M Shipley and Jane Branson.

On January 18, 1874, he married Nancy Jane Marvel, b: 1850 in De Witt, Illinois. The couple lived in Waynesville Township, De Witt County, Illinois, USA. They had the following 5 children there: [1]

  2. James Shipley
  3. George Thomas Shipley
  4. Wilhelm Douglas Shipley
  5. Edwin Francis Shipley

William A. Shipley passed away in 1916 in Waynesville, De Witt, Illinois. He was buried at the Evergreen Cemetery, Waynesville, DeWitt County, Illinois, USA.[2] His wife survived his passing. On March 11, 1923, having left Illinois to live with her daughter, Amy Violette in Oregon, she remarried to a half-first-cousin (different grandmothers), George Washington Marvel, b: November 20, 1844 in Gibson Co., Indiana. He was a two-time widower. The couple lived in Independence, Polk County, Oregon, where Nancy passed away on December 12, 1936. Her body was returned to be buried next to her first husband at the Evergreen Cemetery, Waynesville, De Witt, Illinois, USA.[3]
