Biography
Sylvester Shipman was born in 1823 (although headstone says 1817, the 1850 & 1860 census docs say 1823). He married Louisa Eliza Chaney on January 7, 1844. He died on April 10, 1867, in Fulton, Kansas, at the age of 44, and was buried there.[1]
Sylvester's head stone has his birth as 1817, but Census records have his birth year as 1823 and his mother and father "John and Nancy" were married in 1820.
It appears the Eliza buried next to Sylvester is probably Louisa. Probate papers don't mention a wife, and their daughter Nancy was given guardianship of the 2 minor sons. Also, the probate papers mention property in IL from estate of Robert Y Chaney. Chaney was Louisa's maiden name.
Sylvester's Probate Records also Mention property in IN from the estate John.
