Biography

John was christened in Yate 1 January 1778, son of Samuel and Christian (Cox) Shipp. He married Ann Gifford of Yate 5 December 1805 in Yate. They had eight children 1807-1817. He was an agricultural laborer. In 1851, "a pauper," he and Ann were on Sodbury Road in Yate, their son Robert and family with them. John died in 1852 at age 74 and was buried in Yate.

Notes

Ann was likely the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Gifford of Yate, born around 1780. She was 81 when buried at Yate 24 January 1861.

Their children: Robert, 1806-1880, married Hannah (Anna Maria) Pulling. At least 5 children. Samuel, born and died 1808. John, 1809-1810. William, 1811-1812. Daniel, 1813-1829. Samuel, born and died 1814. John, 1817-1818.
