Lucy was born in 1855 In Taylor County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of John Shipp and Ann Murray.^[1]

Lucy married Nathan Jones on 28 January 1869 at the home of her parents in Taylor County, Kentucky. Lucy's father gave his written permission. His signature was witnessed and sworn to by James Hash, who served as Nathan's bondsman.^[2][3]

They were the parents of at least four children:

• Alice Jones^[4]
• William S Jones^[4]
• James Edward Jones^[4]
• Enoch Jones

She passed away on 13 February 1899 in New Albany, Indiana. She was buried in the Fairview Cemetery.^[5][6]

Research Notes

Lucy's tombstone gives a birth date of 16 September 1855, however, she is 7 when the 1860 [1853] census is taken and 16 when her marriage bond was recorded in 1869 [1853]. The 1855 year would also conflict with the birthdate of Nancy, making them too close together.
