Ewell was the son of Putnam F. & Elizabeth Jane (Quirl) Shipp
He married as her first husband, Loodena "Fannie" David, daughter of Benjamin Robert & Louisiana Jennings (Cole) David - parents of Dillard Den & Alvah H. Shipp
After his death Loodena married James Robert Gill in 1897
He is buried at Shipp Family Cemetery, Dinero, Live Oak, TX
