Biography

William Shirley of Westneston in Sussex, son and heir of Sir Richard Shirley and Ann Shelly, husband of Mary Isley and father of Anthony and Sir Thomas.[1]

Birth date estimated from his age of 42 at the inquisition post mortem of his father on 10 November 1540.[2]

I have checked the familysearch.org user tree that was used as a source. The (few) references on that tree are not relevent or user submitted unsourced information so I have removed it from this profile

I agree that Shirley-918 and Shirley-1021 need to be merged. Are you pre-1500 certified?

Shirley-918 and Shirley-1021 appear to represent the same person because: I was editing Shirley-1021 and then adopted Shirley-918. They are the same person with same parents and siblings. See William Berry, Pedigrees of the Families in the County of Sussex, County Genealogies (Sherwood: Gilbert, & Piper, 1830), 172. Also Elwes, Dudley G. C. History of the Castles, Mansions, and Manors of Western Sussex, Longmans, London, 1876, pp. 263-267 plus numerous other pages in this volume.
