Biography

Joseph was born in 1788,[1] the son of Petrus Schurtz and Eliza Hauser.[1] He was married to two women and had children with both of them. His first wife Margaret passed away on 27 March 1815.[2] He married (2) Lena Van Deusen on 10 August 1816 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.[3]

Note

His son, Joseph, was born after his first wife died and before he remarried. The doctor was never married to Joseph's mother, Eva Showerman.
