Birth: unknown.

Death: Aug. 15, 2014.

Mildred L. Pusey.

Salisbury-Mildred L. Pusey, 92, of Salisbury died early in the morning of Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Wicomico Nursing Home, where she had lived for the past 15 months. Born in the Piney Grove area of Worcester County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Walter and Naomi Figgs Shockley. Her husband of 63 years, Fred Lee Pusey, preceded her in death on April 18, 2007.

She worked at the Martin Plant in Baltimore for a short time in the early 1940s. When she returned to the Shore, she worked at White and Leonard in Salisbury until the birth of her daughter. She was a stay-at-home mother for the next 15 years until she returned to the work force at Montgomery Ward on South Salisbury Boulevard, from where she retired in 1984.

For the next 23 years, she spent her time preserving the vegetables from Fred's garden, making vegetable soup, and baking sweet potato pies. She also enjoyed spending time with her sisters and friends, eating out and playing dominoes, rummy and Rummikub.

At the end of 2010 she moved to John B. Parsons, Assisted Living, where she resided until May 2013. There she made new friends, enjoyed playing bingo, and taught other residents to play Rummikub.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Bernard J. (Joe) Beail of Selbyville; one sister, Frances Mitchell, and a sister-in-law, Becky Pierce, both of Salisbury; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Sarah Hales, also of Salisbury.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Luther, Jim and John Shockley, and four sisters, Ethel Watson, Katie McGrath, Mary Twigg and Louise Pusey.

Funeral services officiated by Phillip Alan Lee of Liberty Church of Christ will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. A visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 18, from 5-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
