When Menno was about 20 he married Sara Brothers in about 1874 in Waterloo. The couple had 9 children: Allan (Brothers) Shoemaker, Mary (Brothers) Shoemaker, Fanny (Brothers) Shoemaker, Arthur Lesley (Brothers) Shoemaker, Annatta (Brothers) Shoemaker, Addison (Brothers) Shoemaker, Bella (Brothers) Shoemaker, Orie (Brothers) Shoemaker and Olive (Brothers) Shoemaker.
