Riley was born about 1810, in in Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina. He passed away after 1860, but beforee 1870, in Giles County, Tennessee. His parents were Abraham SHOOK and Martha PATSY.
He first married Dolly MAYS, and had 4 children:
