Notes

Paraphrased from a speech given in the Lakeview community entitled " Eleanor VanKleek." Anonymous, but probably given by Ida Haggan, the expert genealogist and family member from Lakeview.

"" It was decided that the family would move to Malahide in Elgin County (Upper Canada) Catherine, daughter of David Shook and Elinor Van Kleek, her husband and eight children, their eldest daughter, Christine, her husband and children accompanied David and Elinor on the long journey. The couple were elderly; David, 78, and Elinor 84. They had hardly landed when David contracted the cholera which he had come in contact on the boat coming from Buffalo to Pt.Burwell. His grand-daughter, Susan McConnell and David died shortly thereafter. ""

From the same source: "" David and Eleanor Shooks' were not a story that is told, for the influence of their lives lives on. We find one grandsonand five great grandsons, which include Rev. Americus Timpany, first Canadian Baptist Missionary to India, had heeded the call of the old hymn: **Go spread the Saviour's name, **Go, tell his matchless grace and that message is spread today by Timpany descendants in both India and at home, as well as bya great grandson of Moses McConnell, the Rev. Locker McConnell, a minister in the United Church.""
