Biography

Mary Ann Shoopman, daughter of Jacob Sylvester Shoopman and Mary Polly Owens. Wife of Benjamin Matthews and mother to his 12 children. Mary Ann died sometime after the U.S. Federal census was taken in 1860 and 1965 when the Illinois State census was taken. She and Benjamin were founding members of Clear Creek Regular (Primitive) Baptist Church in Cass County, Illinois and later joined Union Regular (Primitive) Baptist Church by letter in Aug 1832.[1]
