John Wesley Short lived in a cabin located in Meadows, Idaho. He was a hunter / fisherman who enjoy and knew the woods well. He went hunting one day when in his mid 80’s. He fell chasing a deer and broke his hip. He never had surgery for it and it was the end of his hunting and fishing. He spent the rest of his life in a wheel chair. He endured quite a bit of pain and was noted as quite grumpy in his disable years. The grandkids (including my father George Barnes) would run squealing past the porch it irritate him and he would attempt to hit them with his cane while yelling at them. We still don’t know if he was playing with the children or just wanted to run them off.
