Biography

Eliza was born in Sittingbourne in 1859 to George and Lucy Shorter.^[1] Eliza was baptized on 24 Jul 1859.^[2] In 1881, she was a dressmaker and living with her mother Lucy, with future husband William H Gower staying with them as a visitor.^[3]

She married 3 Mar 1883 in Sittingbourne: William Henry Gower was 23, bachelor, school master, resident of Kirdford, Sussex, son of Henry Gower, oyster merchant; Eliza Jane Shorter was 23, spinster, resident of Holy Trinity, Sittingbourne, daughter of George Shorter, plumber; both signed; witnessed by Thomas Manley Wescott & Susan Maria Shorter.^[4]

Eliza died in the Guildford, Surrey registration district in 1931,^[5] and was buried in Woking on 31 Aug 1931.^[6]
