Seth Aycock Shorter was born in Clarendon County on November 23, 1886. He was the son of Charles Burrel Shorter and Mary Amanda Davis Shorter. He was one of seven children.
Mr. Shorter was retired from railroad.
He was the devoted husband of Oceanna Frierson Shorter and loving father of eight children: six sons: William Albert Shorter, Luther Samuel Shorter, Clyde B. Shorter, Horace Allen Shorter, Reuben F. Shorter, Paul Baxter Shorter, and two daughters: Iller Shorter and Ora Lee Shorter.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Oceanna Frierson Shorter and two of his children, William Albert Shorter and Iller Shorter.
Funeral services for Seth Aycock Shorter were held today (September 24, 1969) at Dunbar Funeral Home, Columbia, SC. Services were conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Deneen, D. D. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, SC.
Pallbearers were: R. E. Webb, M. B. Price, H. L. Rish, J. E. Edens, L.S. Tempkins and R. E. Starling.
Mr. Shorter, age 92 years, 9 months, and 30 days, died Monday in Columbia Hospital.
