Clarkson Freeman Shotwell was born in New Jersey on February 20, 1789 to James Shotwell and Elsie (Smalley) Shotwell.
He married Keziah Sutton in about 1810. Their known children are:
Clarkson is listed as living in Independence, New Jersey, in the 1830 United States Federal Census.[1]
Clarkson purchased 160 acres of land in Oakland County, Michigan, which was officially granted on August 12, 1837. The record indicates this purchase was sanctioned under Land Act of 1820. [2] He likely moved his family soon after (date unknown).
He is listed in the 1840 [3] and 1850 [4]United States Federal Censuses as still living in Oakland County, Michigan.
Clarkson passed away on February 23, 1857, in Pontiac, Michigan. He was buried in the Sashabaw Cemetery, in Oakland County, Michigan. [5]
