Biography
Charles Raymond Shoults, III passed away on Thursday, November 21st, 2013 in Springfield, Missouri.
Charles was born March 15, 1947, to Charles R. Shoults, Jr and Eloise Mary (Marx) Shoults, in Honolulu, Hawaii, while his father was stationed at Pearl Harbor. The following year, the family moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where his father served with the Navy School of Music. When the school moved to the Washington D.C. area, the family moved with it.
Charles shared his father’s gift of music and was a member of the Salvation Army band on Duke Street in Alexandria, Virginia. He also participated with his brothers in a volunteer fireman band, which his father directed. After his father’s retirement in 1964, the family was moved to Wichita, Kansas. The following year Charles graduated from Wichita North High School, where he played the double bass in the school orchestra.
After high school, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War Era aboard ship near Tokyo Japan and in the Subic Bay. After discharge, he came to Lancaster, Missouri, where his parents had moved, and met and fell in love with Norma Lee (Manning) Lamb, and her son, Alan Lee Lamb. They were married and to this union two children were born, Jennifer Kim (Shoults) Logan, wife of Brent Logan of Lawton, Oklahoma and Charles Raymond Shoults, IV, of Sidney, Nebraska.
Charles and his second wife, Judy Carol (Shoults) Gagliardo were married in Wichita, Kansas and he fathered her son, Devin Michael Gagliardo. Devin and his mother now reside in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Charles graduated from the Missouri State University at Springfield, Missouri, with a bachelor's degree in music. He was a member of the Republic Missouri Community Band and the author of many original music and arrangements. Charles attended the International Church of God, in Springfield.
Charles is predeceased by his father, his sister, Eloise Mary (Shoults) Brochu and her son Raymond, his step-son, and his nieces Gayle Gorman, and Charlotte Mary Shoults. He is survived by his children and his three grandchildren, Bailey and Nathan Alan Logan, and Connor Shoults, two sisters, eight brothers, and over forty nieces and nephews.
There will be a military service to honor Charles at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri. Arrangements are under the care of Walnut Lawn Funeral home, Springfield, Missouri.
