Ellen Elizabeth Shovlar was born in Shorne, Kent in 1890, [1], her parents being Daniel Shovlar and Mary Ann Murrell.
In 1891, she is living with her parents and 3 older brothers in The Ridgeway, Shorne, Kent [2].
Ten years later, and the family have relocated to Main Road South, Chalk, Kent, where Ellen is 10 years old [3].
Ellen married Frederick Taylor in 1911 in the Strood district of North West Kent [4]. It is unknown what happened to Frederick, as on the 1911 census Ellen is living with her parents, at 7, Chalk Street, Chalk, Kent [5] and although her status is shown as married, there is no sign of her being with her husband.
Frederick may have died fairly soon after this, as she married William Edward Bennett in Gravesend in 1913 [6]. If Frederick was still alive then this would have been a bigamous marriage.
Ellen emigrated to Australia with her son Albert, leaving London on board the Australind on 28th February 1914. Her other son George was left with his grandparents in England, although he did join the family in Australia at a later date. [7]
The family were living at a Settlement property in Eastbrook, Pemberton in WA, in 1914.
Ellen died in 1936, the following notice appeared in The Westen Australian (Perth) on 5th March 1936:
Ellen was buried in Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
