Thomas Preston Showalter was born on February 12, 1902 in Lockney, Floyd County, Texas. His father was George Henry Pryor Showalter and his mother Lena Estelle Honea.[1]

At the age of 8, Thomas lived on San Facinto Street in Austin, Travis County, Texas.[2]

In 1920, Thomas lived at 1920 Merse Street in Austin, Travis County, Texas. He was only 17, but worked as a clerk in the office.[3]

In 1930, Thomas lived in Parmer County, Texas. His sister Helen and her husband lived with him at the same residence. Thomas worked as a printer at the newspaper.[4]

Thomas married Veta Mae Winningham on December 25, 1931 in Travis County, Texas.[5]

In 1940, Thomas lived at 2200 Meadwobrook Street in Austin, Travis County, Texas. He owned his own home and was co-owner of his father's Firm Foundation Publishing Company.[6]

In 1942, Thomas was 6 feet and 2 inches tall, weighed 194 pounds, a light complexion with black hair and brown eyes.[7] He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp on October 30, 1942 in San Antonio, Baxter County, Texas.[8]
