Biography

According to Rev P. J. Shriver, his son, David Ramanes Shriver acquired the Myers Farm near Moritz's Tavern and resided there until 1895, when he moved to Gettysburg, Adams Co, Penna. Then, in 1904, he moved to Philadelphia, Penna. After his wife's death, he made his home with his daughter, Lillian G. Wolf, at Manoa, Penna.

PJ's account also contains the following recollection of his father as a lad during the Battle of Gettysburg: "He and his brother, George I, were too young to join the service, so they decided to be eye witnesses of the Battle of Gettysburg. They climbed a tree that was situated on the top of a large hill, where they had an excellent view of the battlegrounds. While they were watching the fighting, they were wishing they were only old enough to be down there helping their brothers, Lewis P and Henry J, to fight for their country."

PJ continues

"They felt the excitement and thrill of the event they were witnessing, but were suddenly brought to their senses by several shots whizzing through the leaves of the very tree they were hiding in. They were immediately aware of the danger they were in, so they started to climb down out of the tree. Just then, an officer was passing by and, on spying the boys, he shouted, "You boys get down out of that tree and run home as fast as your legs will carry you!" By this time, the boys were so frightened that they didn't need to be told the second time to hurry."

The below source in which I (Ressler-82) used stated that the information regarding the descendants of David Ramanes Shriver was furnished by Paul D Shriver of 969 Grienbriar Lane, Springfield, Penna. Seeing as the book I referenced seems to have been published in the 1970s, it is doubtful that the address is still valid.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with David by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with David:
