Emma was born April 25, 1850, in Union Mills, Carroll County, Maryland. She was the daughter of William Shriver and Mary Owings.
Emma joined the Sisters of Charity where she was known as Sister Francis De Sales.
She passed away on January 1, 1929 and is buried at National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery at Emmitsburg, Frederick, Maryland.[1]

Also, in the household is his wife, Mary, 42, and children, Sarah, 19; Keyser, 13; Albert, 12; Columbus, 10; Mark, 8; Francis, 6; Herbert, 4; Mary, 2; and newborn, Emma. Also in the household is 26 year old Lewis Lawyer, listed as a miller.[2]
1860 - U.S. Federal Census - In the 1860 federal census, William, 62, is farming near Myers in Carroll County, Maryland. Enumerated with him are his wife, Mary, 51, and children, Sarah, 28; Mark, 19; Benjamin, 16, Herbert, 14; Mary 12, and Emma, 10. The census also shows 15-year-old Margaret Henrietta as a domestic.[3]
1870 - U.S. Federal Census - In the 1870 census, William Shriver, 73, is listed as a farmer in District 3, in Carroll County, Maryland. Enumerated with him are his wife, May J. Shriver, 62; Julia C., 38, (probably Sarah), B. F. Shriver, 26; H.H. Shriver, 24, M. O. Shriver, 22, and Emma, 20. Also listed is a domestic servant, E. A. Classon, 12.[4]
1920 - U.S. Federal Census - In the 1920 census, Emma Shriver, 69, is living with a number of other women in the Sisters of Charity convent in Emmitsburg, Maryland where she is listed in the census as a Sister of Charity.[5]
January 1, 1929 - Death - Emmitsburg, Frederick, Maryland.
