An obituary was published on the front page of the Waycross Evening Herald on December 30, 1905

Funeral of Mr. R. L. Shriver

The funeral services o Mr. R. L. Shriver, who died yesterday afternoon at his home on Parallel street, were held at the Catholic church at 3 o'clock this afternoon, Father Phay, of Brunswick, officiating. The interment was in the Lott Cemetery.

Mr. Shriver was born in Baltimore, Md., about 43 years ago, but had been living in this part of the country for a number ofo years. He was a steam pipe-fitter by trade and held a position in the Coast Line shops here until forced to give it up on account of ill health. He then went to Baltimore and spent some time, but returned to Waycross again, and, being unable to follow his trade, kept books for various firms as long as he was able to work. Mr. Shriver attempted to go to his parents in Baltimore again, but was taken so much worse before reaching Savannah that he was unable to make the trip. He spent some time in a Savannah hospital but gradually grew worse and recently returned to Waycross, where he continued to grow weaker day by day. He realized yesterday morning that death was near and requested Mr. W.A. Cason, who called to see him, to remain with him until death. Mr. Cason granted the request and remained with the suffering man until death relieved him. Tender and sympatetic [sic] hands did all they could for the sufferer, yet it was sad for him to go into the great beyond without again seeing his father and mother, who are still living in Baltimore. Mr. Shriver leaves a wife and three small children who have the sincere sympathy of the people of Waycross.
