Biography

Jessie was born on May 19, 1881, in Greene County, Iowa. She is the daughter of John Shriver and Annabella Montgomery.

Jessie never married.

She passed away on January 6, 1970, in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. She was buried on January 11, 1970, in Highland Township Cemetery, Churdan, Greene County, Iowa. A memorial page has been established on Find A Grave.

Her obituary was published in the Jefferson Bee on January 12, 1970

Services for Jessie Shriver held Jan. 11

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan 11, from the Slininger Chapel in Jefferson for Jessie P. Shriver, 88, native of Churdan.

The Rev. Robert M. Parris, minister of the United Methodist church in Churdan, officiated. Mrs. Eldon Kinsman was organist.

Casket bearers were Chester Peacock, Dr. W.L. Nutt Jr., C.P. Van Gilder, Darrell Shriver, Arthur Vincent and Merle Stewart. Interment was in Highland Township Cemetery.

Jessie Pearl Shriver, daughter of John J. and Anabella Montgomery Shriver, was born May 19, 1881, at Churdan, Greene county, Iowa, and died Jan. 8, 1970, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

After completing her schooling in eastern Iowa, Miss Shriver worked in Des Moines for some years. In 1914 she moved to Chicago where she lived until her retirement in 1962. She was employed many years as a secretary at Universal Oil Products Co.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clarence, Clinton, and Clyde; and three sisters, Adelia, Maude and Olive. Two sisters survive, Mrs. Mary Peacock of Spirit Lake and Mrs. Florence Nutt of Des Moines.[1]

1900 - United States Federal Census - In the 1900 census, living in the Shriver household in Highland township, Greene county, Iowa are John, 54; Anabella, 51; Clarence, 29; Adell, 27; Jessie, 19; Clyde, 17; Mary, 14; Florence, 11, and Olive, 7.[2]

1910 - United States Federal Census - In the 1910 census, Jessie Shriver is living as a boarder on Sixth Avenue in Des Moines and working as a stenographer at the State School of Business.[3]

January 6, 1970 - Death - Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.
