Biography

Hiram W. Shults, was born 4 Sep 1812, a son of William H. Shults and Maria (Rickard) Shults. Hiram was baptized on 11 Sep 1812 in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Stone Arabia, in Montgomery County, New York. His sponsors were Johann Evers and his wife, "Bekky." [1]

Hiram married Jane Ann Dockstader. Jane was born on 6 Nov 1815 in Caughnawaga, Montgomery, NY. She died on 2 Feb 1860 in Root, Montgomery, NY, from cancer. She was buried in Mapletown Cemetery, Canajoharie, Montgomery, New York. Children of Hiram and Jane include:

  • Wiliam G. Shults, born August 28, 1837, died March 25, 1864, in Glen, Montgomery County, New York
  • Catherine Shults, born February 24, 1838, married Fraling Keller, born 1834
  • George Henry Shults, born May 21, 1843, died January 20, 1847
  • Calvin Shults, born March 6, 1847, in Glen, Montgomery County, New York, died young

On May 22, 1861, in Glen, Montgomery County, New York, Hiram married Mary Ann Winne. Children of Hiram and Mary Ann are:

  • James Winne Shults, born November 14, 1866, in Mapletown, Montgomery County, New York, died May 14, 1937, in Canajoharie, Montgomery County, New York, married Mary E. Merselis

Hiram died April 8, 1877, at the age of 64 years, in Root Center, Montgomery County, New York, and is buried in the Mapletown Cemetery, there. [2] Mary A. (Winne) Shults survived him. She died May 17, 1903 and is also buried in the Mapletown cemetery, as are several of Hiram's descendants.
